design process

June 23, 2016

Right now I have more design ideas than time. This is going to necessitate a new workflow, and this is one I'm thinking about: designing a full size shawl/sweater/etc. but knitting my concept up in a sample size.

In this case, I've been playing around with shawl architecture. This is a five-segment shawl, but I have only knit one section up to test the basic geometry and overall design before I go any further. The lace pattern itself is gorgeous, but the shawl lacks an overall structure. I've roughly mocked it up in Photoshop, and added my notes as to where It needs work. It's still very labor intensive, but I'm hoping this will speed up the process of adding designs to my catalog.
